Want to have a healthy and delicious dish? Here is one – easy brussel sprouts in brown butter. This would be a great sidedish or even a meal by itself.
- 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
- 1 small red onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
Boil the brusselsl sprouts in salted water, Once water begins to roll, let it boil for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from the pot then run under the tap until it is cool enough to handle. Trim the ends of the sprout and cut in into two.
Place the olive oil in a skillet with medium hear. Add the Brussels sprouts with the cut sides down. Next is to season with salt, pepper and the red pepper flakes. Cook the spouts in the same place until the cut sides are already brown. This will be from 7-9 minutes.
Add the garlic and red onion and stir the mixture until sprouts are cooked but still firm. This will take 10-13 minutes.
In another saucepan, place the butter over medium heat. Melt the butter until it begins to bubble or foam. Reduce the heat and stir constantly until butter begins to brown. Remove from heat and pour the butter to the Brussels sprout. Serve hot.
