Tips for Easy Slow Cooker Pork Tenderloin

The Best Red Cooking Wine Substitute

No red cooking wine? No worries. You can easily substitute any dry red drinking wine such as pinot noir. You can also substitute white cooking wine or dry white drinking wine as well. Red wine adds a deeper and richer flavor but the white will easily work in a pinch.

Wine Substitute In Cooking

No wine on hand at all? No biggie. Simply substitute a low sodium chicken or beef stock or broth.

Chicken Stock Substitute

No stock or broth on hand? Still, nothing to worry about. Simply substitute the red wine with water and add a boullion cube to the liquid.

No boullion cubes? Oh man. Let’s go to the store. I kid. You can also quite simply just substitute the red cooking wine with water. The volume of liquid is key not necessarily the flavor. Although the flavor is nice.

How Can I Tell When Pork Is Fully Cooked In The Slow Cooker?

Many people steer clear of pork tenderloin because we’ve all been scarred by a bad experience with an overcooked dried-out practically inedible pork tenderloin. That is the beauty and simplicity of this recipe by cooking low and slow in a slow cooker in a braising liquid makes it virtually impossible to dry out this pork tenderloin.

It may be tempting to turn your slow cooker up to high to shorten the cooking time. Please, please don’t do this. Low and slow is the key to perfectly cook a pork tenderloin in your slow cooker. Your slow cooker pork tenderloin will take 3-4 hours on low.

If it makes you more comfortable you can check the pork temperature starting at 3 hours with your handy dandy instant-read meat thermometer. Pork tenderloin is cooked at 145-160 degrees. Just remember every time you take the lid off your slow cooker you are releasing the heat and disrupting the cooking process which may ultimately increase your cooking time.

Can I Use a Pork Loin Roast Instead of Pork Tenderloin?

You bet you can. If you can’t find pork tenderloin at the store and all they have is pork loin, that will work just fine. Pork loin and pork tenderloin come from the same pork. The tenderloin is the thinner end cut as the muscle tapers. You can easily use this same preparation to prepare a pork loin.

Simply increase your cook time to 5-6 hours on low. Also depending on the size of the pork loin. Increase your ingredients by half. You don’t want the meat fully submerged but want the liquid at least halfway up the sides.

Other Cuts Of Pork That You Can Use

Feeding more people? This same recipe can be used for a pork shoulder or boston butt. Simply double all of the ingredients and increase your cook time to 8-10 hours on low.

How To Substitute With Beef

  1. This is a very tasty recipe – Thank you! I used a 1.5 lb. pork sirloin roast and it was perfect after slow cooking 4 hours. I will definitely repeat. So easy and so delicious. 5 STARS!!

  2. Easy recipe – best to do dry rub first let sit overnight tightly wrapped in plastic wrap (like Saran) unwrap next day and brown four sides in hot skillet (I use butter) place in crock pot as indicated above – leaving out spices:soup mix. It’ll fall apart and makes great sandwiches or stuffing firnomeltres the next day-you won’t regret my method.
