What kind of bread to use for bread pudding?

The best part about this bread pudding recipe is that it’s pretty forgiving on the bread that you use. Traditional bread pudding requires you to use day-old bread, but sometimes, you just want to make it right away! This is why I opt for baguettes when making this recipe. It has a nice crust all around, giving it that crunchier texture.

What is a baguette?

A baguette is a long, slender French bread with a crusty exterior, chewy texture, and slightly tangy flavor. It is made from basic ingredients like flour, water, salt, and yeast, shaped into a cylindrical loaf, and baked until golden brown.

Is it okay if I use a baguette that is a day old?

Absolutely! In fact, this would be even better for this bread pudding recipe!

Are there any ingredient alternatives?

Feel free to use other types of bread, such as:

  • Ciabbata
  • Challah
  • Brioche
  • Sourdough

Does this recipe require egg?

For this particular dessert recipe, I skipped out on the eggs! While most bread pudding recipes require at least 3 eggs, I decided to go egg-free. I like the consistency that comes out when going egg-less for this particular Bread Pudding – it’s very smooth and sweet. The true focus is on the amazing flavor coming from the strawberries!

If you’d like something similar that uses eggs, I invite you to take a look at our Croissant French Toast with strawberries!
