Can I Freeze This Slow Cooker Sloppy Joe Recipe?

Yes! This is a fantastic recipe to double and use for two dinners. Let it cool completely and store it in a freezer bag for another meal. Don’t forget to write the date with a sharpie on your bag, I recommend you use it within a month or two to avoid freezer burn. Just reheat in the crockpot or on the stovetop. You could also place cooled meat that has been browned in a freezer bag along with all the other ingredients and empty the whole thing into the slow cooker when you’re ready instead of precooking.

Can I use a different meat?

You can use any ground meat that you like such as ground chicken or pork, or even use a meat substitute but it will change the flavors and reduce the fat which will also change the texture a bit.

Easy Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes

Make delicious homemade sloppy joes in your slow cooker -an easy meal that's both kid friendly and a perfect crowd pleaser!

  • Skillet
  • Slow Cooker


  • 1 pound of lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  • Begin by browning ground beef in a skillet on the stove top. Drain beef after browning and add to slow cooker.
  • Add ketchup, mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and salt and pepper to meat in slow cooker and stir well. (Kids love this part – let them dump everything in and stir away!)
  • Set slow cooker to low and cook for 4 hours. Serve sloppy joes on your favorite hamburger buns. That’s it!
