Is it better to boil potatoes whole for mashed potatoes?

You can, but you don’t have to. If you cut up the potatoes first, they will soften and boil faster. It will save you time.

But other people have found that boiling the potatoes whole makes it easier to peel them because the peels fall off the boiled potatoes.

Try it both ways and use your favorite option.

Should you peel potatoes for mashed potatoes?

This is a personal preference – both options work perfectly.

This recipe calls for peeled potatoes, but to save time, you can always leave a little skin on the tops and bottoms of the peeled potatoes.

The skin on Yukon Gold potatoes is also very creamy and naturally delicious.

Bake or heat on the stove

The reason we baked the mashed potatoes is because we wanted to heat up the cream cheese completely after adding it. But you can heat it up in the sauce pan too. If you heat it up on the stove, remember to stir it constantly so it doesn’t burn.
