How To Make Easy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

You won’t even believe how easy it is to whip-up mashed sweet potatoes. After just one bite, you’ll want to make it over and over again.

Are There Any Ingredient Alternatives?

Since this recipe is so easy to whip and requires very minimal ingredients, there aren’t many substitutions to make. You can, however, use a plant-based milk, if you want. I would recommend almond or oat if you were to take that route.

How Long Do Sweet Potatoes Boil For?

I recommend boiling them for about 20 minutes or until you can put a fork through the center of one piece.

What Can You Serve With Mashed Sweet Potatoes?

As mentioned before, this easy mashed sweet potatoes recipe makes for the PERFECT side dish. It pairs well with so many things! My personal favorites are:

Be Sure To Mash the Potatoes Before Adding in the Ingredients!

One key thing to remember is to mash the potatoes before putting the additional ingredients in. This will ensure that all the ingredients mix well with one another.

What’s the Difference Between Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Mashed Potatoes?

Well, before we get into any sort of debate here, I just want to say: I love both side dishes greatly and equally! Now that we got that out of the way: when it comes to a debate over mashed sweet potatoes and regular mashed potatoes, there really isn’t much of a comparison. They’re both awesome in their own amazing way!

However, since we’re on the topic of mashed sweet potatoes, I find mashed sweet potatoes softer and smoother. Of course, they are much sweeter (as the name suggests) as your regular potato, so both side dishes definitely are for different palettes.

Easy Mashed Sweet Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sweet potatoes or 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tbsp whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Peel and cube your sweet potatoes. Add to a saucepan or pot of boiling water. Allow to boil for about 20 minutes or until potatoes become very tender with a fork.
  • Use a strainer to drain the potatoes and place back into the saucepan.
  • Mash the potatoes with a potato masher.
  • Add butter and whole milk. Mix until butter is melted and well-incorporated.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
