Instant Pot Baked Beans Tips

Bacon Is Optional

If you have cooked bacon, you can add it to the baked beans! I did not, but it is definitely a popular option in baked beans. Use as much bacon as you want to. In this recipe, I think that 6 slices crumbled are the perfect amount.

Use A Wooden Spoon

Be sure to use a wooden spoon – I find that using a wooden spoon while cooking in the Instant Pot keeps the inner pot from getting scratched.

Use Enough Water/Liquid To Prevent BURN Warning

You will need to add a cup of water to the baked beans. It cooks out and doesn’t turn it into a soup, I promise! If you don’t use enough water, the beans will stick to the pot and you might get the dreaded Instant Pot BURN warning.

Add Other Ingredients On Top

Add ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard on top. You want to avoid getting these ingredients on the bottom of your Instant Pot, so make sure to really just pour it on top.

Use Cooked Or Canned Beans

This recipe is for cooked or canned beans. If you want to use dried beans, I suggest cooking them the night before and then adding them to the Instant Pot when you are ready to make the baked beans.

  1. We loved baked beans! I know making it from a can is not as healthy, but I never saw it done so seamlessly like you present here! Thanks for this, I am going to try this in my instant pot!

  2. These look delicious. My boyfriend has been wanting an insta pot but we have a slow cooker so I didn’t really want to buy one. Do you think making the change is worth it?

    1. Hi Jaye!

This was exactly the same question I asked myself. I haven’t used a slow cooker since getting an Instant Pot just because the IP yielded such quick results. I would definitely make the switch but still keep a slow cooker on-hand! Both would be very beneficial!

  3. I admit it, I admit it. I don’t have an instapot. And I honestly don’t know that I would ever invest in one! I can’t eat beans and I love crispy food over smooshy (lol) so my air-fryer is my best friend! That being said, instapots are legit saving the world, one busy person at a time!

  5. Instant Pot Baked Beans is one of my comfort food. I hope I can make one tonight. So good!
